,, ,On June 3, citizens in Santa Clara County are being asked to make a decision which has tar reaching
, consequences in our society. Although the issues reflected in measures A&B on our ballots are, being presented
, as civil rights issues, tolerance issues, and, preference issues, they are in reality moral issues which every citizen
must be prepared to face

Webster's dictionary defines morality as "the character of being in accord with the principles or standards of
right coilduct." Who determines such standards? Standards of "right conduct" have always been set by
society. What society establishes or accepts becomes its view of morality.
Every society in the history of man has rejected homosexual activity (sodomy) as inconsistent with sound,
normally. accepted sexual expression. The lncient Greeks, though hdvihg to dlal with homosexuality, nevei
legalized its expression. The ancient Hebrews had recorded in thelr taws, "lf there is a man who iies with a mde
fls those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act . . ." (Leviticus 20:13 of Jewish
l-aw). The standards of right conduct among the moral majority of the first ceniuries A.D. are recorded
repeatedly. Once such record calls sodomy (homosexuality) "indecent acts, and shametess deeds. " (Romans

\ilhat the proponents of propositions A & B would have society do, in the name of civil rights, is to recognize as
a legitimate moral expression that which society has rejected as immoral through thousands of yearq of
recorded history. Are you as a citizen ready to make that decision? ln voting for a false$-stated "righti" issue,
you would be saying to millions of adults and children in generations to come, "We officially accept homosexual
practice as a legitimate part of our society." The irreparable damage done to thousands of naive young people
would be inestimable

not to speak of the community as a whole.

Homosexuals are among the most unhappy people on earth. They portray themselves as normal, happy, welladjusted people. Yet thd suicide rate is nigner among homobexuals than ahy other group per capita. indy want
us-, to ,believe they a,re moral. Yet 38% of those jailed for child molestations were, in one study, found to be
homoSexuals, a group comprising only 1% to 2% of the population. (Kinsey, Alfred: INSIITIJTE OF SEXUAL
RESEARCH, 1964, tndiana lJniversity). And in cities like San Francisco, which adopted a similar ordinance to
those of A & B, homosexual acts are openly committed in public parks and on public streets. They want us to
believe that all they want is to "live and let live," yet homosexuals have recently mounted an aggressive
recruiting campaign on campuses of Santa Clara County schoots.
Our constitution protects homosexuals. They have a legal right to hold any view and to practice whatever sexual
prefer'dnce they wish in private. But'wb obiect to oile gi---oup Who , hai mode a peisbnal choice' aiking for
unpt'ecedented legal sanction to their acts. We object especially when such sanctions would have the effect of
changing thousands of years of established'morallty and effectively diluting our right to make certain moral
choices.

No evidence has ever been presented that homosexuals are iindeed discriminated against. Not one proof of job
bias or housing discrimination was ever presented'in all the public hearings before the city council and countyi
supervisors. What we did hear was a public outcry in which approximately 90% of the people whb testified
asked that these ordinances not, be put into law. What we did see was an effective petition drive to get these

ordinances put on the ballot where you, who would be most affected by tneii imrSralitt, .orlO vot6 against
