Projects in or near Santa Clara
• MTC has approved a $337,000 grant for streetscape improvements on The
Alameda - planting of more that 80 trees, new hardscape treatment for two
median islands, functional and decorative retaining wall. The streetscape
improvements will serve to upgrade this important gateway into the City of
Santa Clara. (The project was approved by MTC as part of liie guaranteed list,
so it will most likely be approved by CTC next week.)
• In May 1993, MTC approved a $36,000 grant for improvements at the City
of Santa Clara Historic Railroad complex.
• Jim, as chair of the Community Development Block Grant, approved
funds for the following organizations...
1. Emergency Housing Consortium shelter program, which provides
services to the homeless throughout the coimty.
2. Bill Wilson Center, in Santa Clara, provides shelter for runaway youth
3. Adult Independence Development Center, also located in Santa Clara
4. Mid-peninsula Center for Battered Women - this is located in Mt.
View, but it provides services to Santa Clara women.
5. Korean American Community Services/Korean Senior Citizen
Services - provides nutrition programs, activities, etc. for Koreans
countywide.
6. Portuguese Organization for Social Services and
Opportunities/Portuguese Community Center - provides recreation, social
services, senior escort and case management for Portuguese seniors
count)rwide.
• Guadalupe Corridor Light Rail Project, which services Santa Clara - on the
Board of Control 1983-1990
• Caltrain-Santa Clara Station improvements - Jim was on the Peninsula
Joint Powers Board, which owns and operates the commuter train service
which runs through Santa Clara.
• Alameda-El Camino Real bypass project. Jim lobbied for state and federal
funds to relocate main thoroughfare running through the University of
Santa Clara.
• Tasman Bridge at Guadalupe River - connects San Jose to Santa Clara.
