Energy Task Force
ENERGY TASK FORCE
In 2001, Jim calledfor the creation ofan Energy Task Force in his State ofthe County address. The
goal was to reduce electrical consumption by 10%. This was achieved but with a 20% reduction in 2
years (2001-2004). The Energy Task Force recommendations also resulted in $8.8 million in ongoing
savings to the County as ofOctober 2004. In addition, over 500 energy conservation projects were
completed between FY 2001 and FY 2004.
On June 24, 2003, the Board ofSupervisors approved the Energy Se^ice Contract with Chevron
Energy Solutions to execute ECMs identified during the energy audits conducted in 2001 and 2002 by
Chevron Energy Solutions. This contract was to expire on June 24, 2006. To date the County has
completed $1,066,366 in ECMs utilizing the Energy Service Contract. These ECMs have generated over
$100K in rebates and have produced an estimated $140K in annual electricity savings. Subsequently,
Energy Conservation projects have not beenfunded by the Board ofSupervisors, but the County has
received an additional $309,228 in rebates, (matrix attached)
t
More recently, during the budget workshops, the Board accepted a report backjrom staffon alternative
uses of Williams Settlement Funds. The report included 141 unfunded energy conservation projects
worth $11.6 million withfinancialpayback periods varyingfrom less than one year to 12 years. A lot
has been accomplished because ofthe Task Force Recommendations and there is still roomforfuture
savings and improvement.
