DIANNE McKENNA
Dianne McKenna has served on the Santa Clara County Board of
Supervisors since 1984. Currently, she is chairperson of the Board of
Supervisors, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and the Santa
Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
Dianne is leader in transportation. She led the successful merger of the
Congestion Management Agency and the Transit District Board. At the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC),she guides the regional
efforts for planning and allocating funding for transportation projects.
She is a founding member of the Peninsula Commute Service Joint
Powers Board, which operates the commuter rail service from Gilroy to
San Francisco.
Dianne is an advocate for children and youth. She is a member of the
New Children's Shelter Board of Trustees, a public-private effort that built
a new Children's Shelter for abused and neglected children in Santa
Clara County. Dianne is a founding member of Kids in Common, a
collaborative effort to improve conditions for children. In addition, Dianne
chairs the Children and Youth Services Joint Conference Committee
which develops policies and programs for children and families.
Dianne is also known for her work on environmental and conservation
issues. She led the General Plan Review Advisory Committee which
completed its work of reviewing and updating land use plans and
policies in 1994. As Chair of the Solid Waste Commission of Santa
Clara County, Dianne initiated efforts for countywide recycling of
materials by households and businesses.
Dianne proposed a comprehensive Code of Ethics for the Board of
Supervisors ~ covering campaign contribution limits, conflict of interest,
and "revolving door" issues. Prior to her election to the Board, Dianne
served seven years on the Sunnyvale City Council, including two terms
as Mayor. She holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree
from San Jose State University. Dianne lives in Sunnyvale with her
husband, Regis. They^have three children Sean, Meghan, and Gaelan,
and five grandchildren,' Madeline, Conor, Brendan, Molly & Bridget.
