Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors

Dear Supervisors:
At our meeting of April 25. 1979. the members of the
Executive Board of Branch 193. National Association of
Letter Carriers, voted unanimously to commend you on your
recent vote to adopt a resolution calling for either an
excess profits tax on U.S. oil companies or nationalization
of the American oil industry.
The current gasoline shortage, coupled with unending
price increases, is creating great hardship on the American
people. The large oil companies, however, have shown little
concern with fighting inflation or providing us with needed
fuel in their pursuit of profits that are now reaching
obscene levels.
Perhaps if more local government bodies follow your
courageous lead, the U.S. Congress will eventually take
notice and take the constructive action necessary to remedy
this situation.
Sincerely,
Ike Shulman
Recording Secretary
