By Ed Pope

Gasollne lines, described by
some dealers as the worst 'of
the shortage, plagued Santa
Clara County Tuesday, appar

closure of service stations this
week.
Most service stations report
ed lines as long as or longer

than. they were before odd-even
rationing was imposed.
And police depurt1uents said
the lines caused the worst traf
fic jams they have seen during
the worsening gasoline crisis.
The Regal Arco station at
Old Oakland and Gish roads re
ported a line 1 ½ miles long
Tuesday morning --' "the long

panicking again becau,i ,f the
proposed four-day st, ·,down"
Thursday through Sunc. ,y.
Other station' attendants
agr.eed that that ls part of the
problem, but the.y also pointed
out that Tuesday was the first
real opportunity since last Fri
