SUBJECT:
The Youth Task Force
The Board of Supervisors approved the concept of a Youth Task Force in June of 1997 to advise
the Human Relations Commission and the Board of Supervisors on Youth Issues. As a sub
committee of the Human Relations Commission, the Youth Task Force has experienced muc h
success and has proven to have an invaluable positive impact on the youth of Santa Clara
County. While the Youth Task Force has experienced success in most of their objectives, thisy
have not had success in their attempt to advise the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors on issues
and initiatives that affect the lives of youth. As a strong supporter of programs that empower our
youth, I am requesting that each Supervisor take time out of their busy schedules to meet oncx; a
year for 45 minutes with members of the Youth Task Force to discuss county policies and
programs that impact them. This year the Youth Task Force has chosen to focus their energy on
the following three issues: Safe Sex, Violence Prevention and the Juvenile Justice System. VAj
can help our youth leaders achieve all the goals they set out to accomplish by taking time oui:
once a year to attend their meetings and listen to their invaluable insight.
