Education Press Conference

Jim Beail Octobers, 1992

Thank you, I’m grateful for the confidence that you all have shown in me.
I promise to you that I won’t disappoint you if I’m elected to represent you in
Sacramento.

We need a long-range strategic plan for education in this state. Not a
band-aid that will get us from one crisis to the next. A Master Plan for both

kindergarten through high school and for higher education.
We’re adding 200,000 kids a year to schools througout this state and
there is no blueprint to show us where our schools should go. I'm committed
not only to restoring funding to schools, but planning to make sure vve get the
most possible out of every dime we spend.

Delaine has been the state’s leader on this issue. It's hard to imagine a
more articulate, passionate advocate for kids and schools.
I’d like to stand by Delaine’s side, not in her way - like my opponent
Chuck Quackenbush.
Chuck Quackenbush turned his back on our kids.

He voted with the Governor nearly every chance he got - cutting the
education budget by 1.1 billion dollars.
When i went to Sacramento with a busload of teachers and parents from
the Oak Grove School District to lobby for more money for education,
Assemblyman Quackenbush wouldn’t even meet vjith us.
In that one action, he showed his contempt for those who do the work of
teaching our kids. Give me a chance, and PH show my commitment to you.
Thank you very much.
