The Santa Clara County Public Health Department is delighted to request $20,000 in

funding from Kaiser Permanente to augment the County’s efforts to expand targeted
HIV test-counseling to Santa Clara County residents. As you know, the Board of
Supervisors this year allocated $375,000 (total project budget) in one-time monies to
support this initiative from July 1, 2006 through October 2007.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, through its Advancing HIV Prevention
initiative, has emphasized the importance of early diagnosis of HIV infection. The
resources dedicated to this local initiative will allow us to expand the outreach of our
