Dear Supervisor Beall,
Thank you for sponsoring the FY 2007 budget request for the AACI health clinic!
Focusing on the diverse Asian American community, Asian Americans for Community Involvement
(AACI)’s mission is to improve the health, mental health, and well-being of individuals and their
families by providing an array of human services. AACI empowers the Asian American community by
working collaboratively for equality and social justice.
The AACI health clinic provides primary care to Santa Clara County residents regardless oftheir ability
to pay. Most of the patients who use the clinic are low-income Asian Americans with limited or no
English language skills. The clinic provides services to patients of all ages in English, Mandarin,
Cantonese, Vietnamese, and some Indian dialects.
The AACI health clinic is the only clinic in the county dedicated to serving the Asian American
population, and it is currently bursting at the seams. One-time county funding would allow AACI to
double the clinic from 5 to 10 exam rooms, and increase patient visits from 5,600 to 12,000 per year.
By providing primary care, the AACI clinic helps residents avoid costly emergency room care at the
county hospital. The clinic is cost-effective and addresses unmet community need.
We appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Christine Tyler, MPH
Director of Policy and Clinical Activities.
